Permits in Lumpkin County
The property owner applies for the permit. Which office you call depends on whether your land is inside a city's limits. Check with them before you order; we help you match the building to their answers.
Worth asking here
- Inside Dahlonega, the city's FAQ says to talk to the building inspector first. Ask whether your project needs a development plan as well as a permit: the city requires one for most construction other than single-family homes.
- Ask the county's planning office about zoning on your parcel before you settle on a size and spot.
For the full list of questions, check your ZIP below or print them with the Site & permit packet.

Getting your site ready
Lumpkin is mountain country, with Blood Mountain on its northern edge and much of the north in the Chattahoochee National Forest. GA-400 ends just south of Dahlonega, and US-19 and GA-52 carry you from there.
Plan on a level pad, within 3" across the footprint, which on a hillside usually means grading or concrete. Check that a truck pulling a 30' to 36' trailer can make the turns on the way in. Remote places and busy seasons can take longer than our usual 8 to 10 weeks.
